Sold without taking the founders off the business

IDVerse logo

An Australian company building AI that tells a genuine identity document from a forged one. Acquired in 2025 by LexisNexis Risk Solutions, part of RELX.

We understood how to build the technology, but Halkin Ventures guided us through the strategic and commercials, without which we would never have been interesting for the likes of a LexisNexis

Where they were

IDVerse checks whether an identity document is genuine and whether the person holding it is who they say they are, catching forgeries and deepfakes that get past people. It does it automatically, in seconds. It started as OCR Labs, and it had built something that worked before it had built the business case around it.

What the work was

Halkin Ventures embedded a CEO and a CFO inside IDVerse, to grow it big enough for the exit the founders wanted and then carry the business through to completion. A founder running a live sale process is doing two full-time jobs, and the one that suffers is usually the business a buyer is in the middle of valuing.

What happened

The acquisition completed on 18 February 2025 and IDVerse joined the Business Services group at LexisNexis Risk Solutions. The founders spent the process building the product rather than running the sale, which is why there was a business worth buying at the end of it.
